Recently I was informed that my brother had a heart attack and they are giving him a pacemaker. This comes as no surprise as my father had a pacemaker and I've had OHS (open heart surgery) and my sister and I have CHF (congestive heart failure). But I am sure that things will start looking up. I mean where else can they go? That's the one reassuring thing about bad stuff that happens to people. You can always count on things to get better when they've reached bottom.
Of course we all know that that is not true. Our perception of "the bottom" is warped and due to a limited imagination or an unwillingness to face the truth. And the truth of the matter is; things can always get worse. Example: 911 = thousands dead. Tsunami = tens of thousands dead.
So the next time someone calls to tell you Aunt Martha is in the hospital, you can be sure it can get worse. Just wait and see...
